La Tène: The Original Barbarians

Also known as the Gauls, the La Tene founded some of the biggest religious cults of northern Europe. The Romans called them “Barbarians,” and the La Tene culture dominated Europe for centuries with their powerful, mysterious warrior clans and mystical druidic rituals.

MORE
So we’ve already talked about the Koori and the Cahokians, and if you’re following your indoctrination from the traditional (read: hopelessly, racistly, clueless) ideas of history, you’re probably imagining simple, people living in tribes, with a “deep connection to the land.” The traditional “noble savage” picture.
la-tene_map
There IS a civilization that matches that idea – tribes with a nature-based religion that prized their relationship with their land. Tribes with a savage streak, who were notorious for their ability to create mayhem.
And they came from Europe. How’s that for savages?
Name: La Tène Culture
Continent: Europe
Time Period: 450-100 BCE
Succeeded/Conquered By: Roman Empire
Currently: Central Europe.
The La Tène were also sometimes called the Gauls. The Romans named them the Barbarians. The La Tène didn’t much care for that, so they sacked Rome. More than once.
Their nature religion was overseen by a fierce, terrifying priesthood. You known them as “Druids.” Confusingly, the La Tène were also sometimes knows as Celts. But there is confusion about whether they are even related to the Irish Celts. Imagine that, confused historians. I’m shocked.
Remember, savagery, violence, mercilessness… none of these qualities is inconsistent with the Truth. We may not want to live that way now – and some may think of these traits as immoral. But I’m here to ask you to think about them differently, to imagine the world they lived in and ask yourself – what would I have done? In a fight-or-die world, would you be a pacifist? Would you watch your family die?

The forerunners of modern Australian Aboriginal cultures, the Koori once had domain across all of Australia and surrounding islands. The Koori placed a premium on self-sufficiency and harmony with the environment.

MORE
The Koori are one of the longest-lasting societies on this list, holding dominion over the entirety of the continent of Australia for millennia. Their relative isolation from the rest of the world, with long stretches free from warfare helped the Koori develop a sophisticated culture and religion based around the mystical “Dreamtime.”

Today, we are ignorant of much of Koori history. Thousands of years of collective knowledge was brutally suppressed by colonial Australian conquerors. Only in recent years are the so-called Aboriginal societies in Australia recovering that history. Or maybe they never lost it, but have been keeping it to themselves. But who really did conquer them? Historians can’t really say for sure. Why? Maybe because most historians are regurgitating the same lies the rest of humanity has been fed.
Whoever vanquished the Koori — were they threatened by a people who lived in harmony with such inhospitable terrain? Did they expose their conquerors weaknesses? Puncture illusions upon which these subjugators built their rapacious way of life? Soon we shall see.

The Harappans: Indus Valley Industry

One of the oldest civilizations in the world, the Harrapans ruled across modern India and Pakistan, where they developed some of humanity’s first advanced urban centers, and a mysterious writing system that has never been deciphered.

 MORE
These days, the lands where India, Pakistan and Afghanistan converge are among the most fractious in the world. But thousands of years ago, these same lands were the site of one of the world’s first advanced urban civilizations. The Harappans built the first major cities in South Asia. They were masters of architecture and hydraulic engineering. Their urban sewage systems were far more advanced than anything the Romans could have dreamed of. And their writing system has still never been completely decoded.

Much like their nearly indecipherable language, the Harappan left behind far more questions than answers. What we do know is that their wisdom and courage were unassailable; their understanding of human nature made them one of the most prosperous civilizations in history.
But if we could decipher the Harappan script (and maybe we can), we’d discover a highly advanced society with a pragmatic spirituality, bordering on the ruthless. A Harappan would scoff at our quaint notions of right and wrong, of good and evil. They would think of us as children – and they’d be right.

The Donghu: Bronze-Age Über Ninjas
icon-color-donghuA cluster of nomadic clans from the steppes of central Asia, the Donghu were famous for their martial skill. Fast, ruthless and brilliant at coordinated attacks, the Donghu appearing on your land usually spelled certain death. Their descendants evolved into the world-conquering Mongol Hordes.

MORE
For centuries, the people who lived on the Asian steppes learned to fear the sound of hoofbeats in the distance. Hordes of warrior clans on horseback would ride in from the wastelands and decimate everything in sight. The most famous of these were the Mongols. But they were merely the most recent in a centuries long tradition that began with the Donghu.

Far back in the bronze age, the Donghu emerged – a loose alliance of clans that would grow in to a fully integrated federation. They invented a combat style – large-scale, coordinated attacks on horseback and from multiple directions at once – that would become the hallmark of Mongolian warriors for centuries, and eventually lead the great Khans to conquer a quarter of the world.
But the Donghu were more than just warriors, they were pure of spirit and free of mind. Now, make no mistake, they were violent and merciless. But they were not conquerors or demagogues – they brought no false hope with their horses, and no lies with their weapons. The truth is never easy.
Strip away your preconceptions of what it means to be moral and just. More soon.

The Cahokians: the Vanished Empire
icon-color-cahokian
The Cahokians were a highly advanced civilization in what is now the mid-western United States. Legends say they had a strong connection to the land, and had the ability to shape the environment to their will. They mysteriously vanished, leaving a huge section of North America virtually depopulated for centuries.  History claims to not know why.

MORE
In the Midwestern United States, before the rise of the tribal societies we think of as Native Americans, there was a vast empire, a thriving civilization and giant cities  – the largest on the continent for centuries, not to be topped until Philadelphia in the 1700s.

The disappearance of the Cahokian civilization was so abrupt and total, that when European explorers reached the area centuries later, they remarked on the curious lack of people living in the area.
The original Cahokians left behind mysterious hill structures that are still around today: the Cahokian Mounds, in what is now Illinois.
As with many of the great monoliths left behind by the 12 Lines, the Cahokian Mounds served a purpose far beyond what can be inferred from what remains.

Aksumites: Bloodline of the Red Sea

The Aksumites are lesser-known, but a crucial connection between King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. They’re all over the mythology of the Lost Tribe of Israel, and were thought to be the ones who took hold of the Ark of the Covenant. The Aksumites were famous for their spirituality and their ability to peacefully trade and negotiate in even the worst war zones.

MORE
Conventional history says that the Aksum Empire was a major trading power that thrived on trade with Egypt and Rome; in fact, they minted their own gold coins to facilitate their powerful position. Aksum is also the mythical origin of the Queen of Sheba and the Ark of the Covenant.
Name: The Aksum (or Axum) Empireaksumite_map

What is less often acknowledged is that the true roots of the Aksumite culture started at least 7,000 years ago, and further that the discoveries of Lucy and other hominid fossils in Ethiopia attest to its status as one of the birthplaces of humanity in the first place.
Unfortunately, the Aksumites began their slow descent into corruption starting with their first contact with the Romans and inevitable subsequent conversion to monotheism in the 4th century. In the centuries that followed, Aksum became despotic and greedy, subjugating their neighbors, until being overrun and assimilated into a toxic brew of lies.
Soon, we will learn the true wisdom of this great Line. And we’ll start to uncover the (real) meaning of some of its greatest works.
